About Me
My Running Background
Prior to 2011 I had done some running but not regularly and after a hiatus, I wanted to get back into itagain. I was overweight and wanted to see what I could achieve. I didn't want to regret not having tried. I started out in 2011 with a 10K and by the end of the year had completed 4 marathons, winning one of them. The following year I did my first Ultra of 55 miles coming 2nd and found that the longer distances suited me best and gave me the most enjoyment. Later that year I won my first Ultra and sought races in locations that inspire me, usually in the hills and mountains. I've now competed in France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, the US, Canada, as well as all over the UK.
Even though I prefer trail and off-road running I still get a great buzz out of speeding along the roads as opposed to the slower pace of my usual races. My endurance supports me well in road races and I have a half marathon PB of sub 1.26. I felt that one day I might be able to do a 1.30 half marathon but didn't realise I was capable of much quicker. It's a real blessing to be such a versatile runner who is able to do any distance or terrain, be fast on the flat and be strong on the hills.
My motivations for running have changed greatly over the years from wanting to be healthier and doing an occasional race whereas now I want to run really long distances and be the best runner I can. It means a lot to me that I know I gave it my all, I was smart in my race preparations and race day strategy, that I enjoyed and learned from the experience. It doesn't matter where I finish in a race as long as I feel I ran my best on the day.
Long term my aspirations are that I continue to develop further as a runner, there is always more to learn, and that I continue to have the freedom and good health to keep doing what I love.
